On the news front this month Al Eisenberg has made progress with re-introducing a Federal bill to make it illegal to sell fake and fraudulent Civil War materiel.  It will also require reproduction materiel to be so marked.  It is Bill # HR 6244 in the House of Representatives.  Rep. Moran is sponsoring the bill.  This may seem a small step, but it is a siginificant one in the overall scheme of things to get the attention from Internet sites and to establish credentials for CWDCA as a legitimate organization of concerned and active members.

I have also established contact with Congressman Virgil Goode of Virginia who is a collector interested in assisting us.  I have also met with Congressman John Culberson of Texas, an active collector of Civil War artifacts, and he is also very interested in supporting CWDCA.  (As a matter of fact, John visited the recent show in Chantilly and had a blast.)

I trust all of you who are members recognize that the wheels of government work slowly, but we want you to know that we are making progress with establishing powerful political supporters for our cause as well as continuing to promote membership at the grassroots level.  Those of you who have signed up will be recognized as the initial few who were willing to stand up and be counted when most were sitting on their hands waiting to see which way the wind blew.  I am personally proud of each of you for doing so.

Please continue to talk up the organization among your friends and contacts.  Let them know what we are all trying to achieve and exhort them to sign up and lend a hand.  We need everyone to join in order to speed up progress.

Steve Sylvia
